GALWAY TDS URGED TO FIGHT FOR SERVICES AT PORTIUNCULA
Date Published: 14-Nov-2011
Trade Unions are calling on Galway TDs to attend a meeting to discuss the protection of services at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
It follows a reassurance from Minister of State Ciaran Cannon that cancer services at the Ballinasloe facility will not be targeted in next month’s budget.
It was feared the oncology unit and warfarin clinic would be wound down as part of a cost cutting plan.
At a meeting with hospital management last week [Nov 8], trade unions were told that the facility is waiting on final instruction from the HSE following Minister Cannon’s assurance.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Padraic Mulligan of Impact Trade Union says action is now needed to follow through.
