Two Galway TDs have condemned protests at their family homes this weekend as a new low in Galway politics.

The first of the pickets led by Galway Alliance Against War took place on Saturday outside Labour Deputy Derek Nolan’s parents’ home in Riverside.

This was followed on Sunday evening by another small protest led by the group outside fellow Galway West Deputy Brian Walsh’s home where he lives with his wife and two children.

The anti-war group wanted to highlight its concerns about a recent Garda raid at member Niall Farrell’s home during which a number of computers and DVDs were confiscated.

Niall Farrell is planning to make a complaint to the Garda Ombudsman.

It is understood the raid was part of an ongoing investigation into damage caused to an aircraft in Shannon late last year.

Deputy Nolan told Galway Talks he made the group aware that he did not reside at the property and there’s no justification in involving his parents.

Deputy Brian Walsh has described the behaviour of the Galway Alliance Against War as appalling and says he was also presented with a list of demands from the group.
