GALWAY TD RAISES ISSUE WITH ASPECTS OF PROPERTY TAX
Date Published: 06-Mar-2013
A Galway West TD says several issues still need to be clarified on the issue of the property tax.
Independent Noel Grealish says people need to know what could happen if they over-value their homes but sell it for a lesser value.
Deputy Grealish is also questioning if, on account of the property tax, local authorities could take over from management companies who charge fees for the maintenance of residential estates.
Homeowners will receive a letter in the post next week from Revenue – telling them how much they owe.
However, if you think the amount is too high – you can go back to Revenue with your own estimate.
Only half of the property tax will have to be paid by this July – and those who don’t respond to Revenue before the end of June will face stiff penalties.
Those who are self employed – or registered with ROS – will not receive a letter in the post – but an email instead.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Deputy Noel Grealish says clarity needs to be provided on certain issues
