The Minister for Training & Skills, Ciaran Cannon says concerns relating to the disposal of hazardous waste should be brought before the Enivonmental Protection Agency.
The issue was raised in the Dáil by Galway West TD Seán Kyne this week.
Deputy Kyne says there is a need to monitor and review disposal procedures at hospitals nationwide.
Deputy Kyne highlighted a need to review the practices relating to the disposal of hazardous waste, and the reporting of safety breaches.
He told the minister about a case in which an employee had lost his job for reporting shortfalls at a medical facility.
Speaking on behalf of Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan, Minister Cannon said as the EPA hold responsibility for the issue, he should bring the matter before the agency directly.
