Galway TD dissapointed with Galway West vote against abortion legislation
Galway bay fm news – Galway West Labour TD Derek Nolan says he is dissapointed with the decision by other Galway West representatives to vote against the abortion legislation.
Three of the TDs voted against the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill and two for it.
In a statement, Deputy Nolan says given that ”Galway has such a recent and sad history when it comes to protecting women during pregnancy, I am deeply disappointed that so many Galway representatives would vote against this bill”
The Committee stage of the abortion legislation will continue today, with the contentious suicide clause to be discussed.
Discussion of the Bill in committee is not expected to conclude until tomorrow and it will return to the Dail next week where the Fine Gael revolt is likely to increase.
The suicide clause has yet to be discussed in depth but the Health Minister James Reilly says it is very restrictive.
