GALWAY TD CALLS FOR REVIEW OF RTE CURRENT AFFAIRS SHOWS

Galway West TD Eamon O’ Cuív has called for an independent review of all current affairs programmes in RTE radio and television.

The Fianna Fail TD made the comments at an Oireachtas Committee meeting that’s taking place this lunchtime.

The committee is meeting to discuss the implications from a recent report into the libelling of Ahascragh priest father Kevin Reynolds by RTE.

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland fined RTE 200-thousand euro after an investigation into the making of the "Mission to Prey" programme found there was a significant failure of editorial and managerial controls within RTE.

Senior figures from the BAI and RTE are attending the Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture.

Speaking at the Committee meeting, Eamon O’ Cuív says an independent review of RTE programmes needs to take place.
