Galway TD calls for audit of mental health service deaths
A Galway East TD is calling for a full audit of all deaths in Mental Health Services.
Fianna Fail Deputy Colm Keaveney says that a recent report shows that just 25 percent of deaths at state mental health facilities follow statutory reporting guidelines.
He says that the state is badly failing people with mental health problems – and that sanctions need to be introduced for health care staff that do not follow their statutory obligations.
Deputy Keaveney says that suicide is one of the biggest public health crisis’s facing the country – yet deaths in mental health services are not being investigated.
