Galway East T.D, Colm Keaveney has formally apologised to the Standards in Public Office Commission in a controversy over political donations.

Last week, the Commission named Deputy Keaveney as the only T.D who failed to supply disclosure documents for 2012.

The Labour T.D insisted he had posted the documentation and that the Commission was ‘grossly unprofessional’.

According to the Irish Times, the Chairman of the Standards in Public Office Commission last Tuesday demanded that Deputy Keaveney withdraw his remarks and apologise.

SIPO says it received Deputy Keaveney’s donation statement on Tuesday morning on the original forms that were sent to him at the start of January.

Deputy Keaveney insisted he had originally sent the required information "on white paper, not the original forms".

Colm Keaveney has withdrawn his remarks about the professionalism of the commission and apologised for any offence caused.
