Galway swimmers end the season in fine style

A 64-year-old former butcher from Moycullen has been jailed for a year for the sexual abuse of a child over a three-year period during the 1970s.

Dominic Downey, of Ugool, Moycullen, was found guilty by a jury at Galway Circuit Criminal Court in mid November and was sentenced this week.

He had denied six sample charges of indecently assaulting the girl when she was aged between 12 and 15, on various dates between 1973 and 1975 at the butcher’s shop he then owned at Spiddal Road, Moycullen.

The jury convicted him of three of the charges.
