Galway third level students will no longer experience delays in the processing of grant payments.

That’s according to Emmet Connolly, President of NUI Galway Students Union, who has welcomed a new online system which is set to save the exchequer 5 million euro a year.

The new system, known as SUSI, goes live today.

It aims to centralise grant applications, which were previously processed by more than 60 separate authorities.

And, for the first time, Leaving Cert students entering third level this year won’t have to wait for the offer of a college place before making a grant application.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Emmet Connolly says it’s good new for 45 percent of NUI Galway’s student population who rely on the timely payment of grants.
