"Derek Nolan, keep your promise".

That’s the message from a group of over 40 GMIT class representatives who are taking part in a demonstration against any further fee increases and grant cuts in next month’s budget.

They are joining forces with their NUI Galway counterparts at Eyre Square this lunchtime.

From there they’ll go to Labour Deputy Derek Nolan’s office at New Docks to call on him to honour his and his party’s pre-election promises.

The students will present Deputy Nolan with 600 letters containing broken pencils as a symbolic gesture of the impact of education cuts.
