GALWAY SOUP KITCHEN OPENS NEW BASE IN ATHLONE

City based Twist Soup Kitchen is to open a new facility in Athlone this morning [Nov 5].

The voluntary organisation was set up on Dock Road in June where it feeds an average of 80 people per day.

It provides free hot meals such as beef and lamb stew and chicken casserole based on donations from local food suppliers and online donations through its website.

It will also operate this year in the city on Christmas Day providing food to those in need.

The Athlone facility opens this morning in Irishtown.

Managing Director and Athenry resident Oliver Williams says the expansion is due to an increasing demand to meet basic food needs.
