The final hurdle has been cleared by the developers of the Galway Shopping Centre.

City planners have approved the 140 million euro revamp on the Headford Road, with 67 conditions attached.

Developers must first pay a 3.3 million euro contribution to Galway city council before any construction work begins on one of the biggest developments in the city.

The existing Galway shopping centre will be demolished to make way for shops, restaurants, leisure centre, municipal art gallery, 228 apartments and a multi-storey car park of 1,351 spaces.
