Galway bay fm newsroom -Judges, politicians and senior civil servants in Galway could see a major change to pension entitlements if legislation in the Finance Bill is blocked.

Galway Senator Fidelma Healy-Eames says preferential treatment for a certain section of the public service should be reversed.

According to the reform alliance senator, public sector workers are allowed to retire and earn up to 115 thousand euro in tax-free pensions.

However common defined contribution schemes in the private sector are capped at 60 thousand euro, after which they are liable for a 70 percent tax.

Senator Healy- Eames says there should be equity across both sectors and says she is calling for the legislation to be reversed
