Galway Senator to vote against abortion legislation if it remains unchanged

Galway Fine Gael Senator Fidelma Healy Eames says she will vote against the draft legislation on abortion if it remains unchanged.

The Galway West Senator is among a number of the party’s TDs and Senators who are opposed to the inclusion of suicide as a risk to the life of a mother.

The Heads of the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill is set to dominate the weekly Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting this evening.

Members of the Labour Party are currently meeting to discuss the draft legislation – published last night.

Senator Healy Eames says she will continue in her efforts to influence the final wording of the Bill.
