Galway Senator tables amendment on proposed abortion legislation
Galway bay fm newsroom – A Galway Fine Gael Senator say it is important to continue to oppose the flawed grounds on which she claims the proposed abortion legislation is based on.
Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has tabled a reasoned amendment to the protection of life during pregnancy bill which comes before the Seanad after passing through the Dail last week.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael Senator Michael Mullins has yet to confirm to media which way he will vote on the legislation.
If the bill is defeated, it may be returned to the Dail for another vote, tightening the window the government has to pass it before the summer recess.
Several senators have already warned they will seek amendments – changes being suggested include the removal of jail sentences for those who procure abortions and the deletion of the suicide clause.
