Galway Senator Michael Mullins to support government on abortion legislation
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway Fine Gael Senator Michael Mullins says he will support the government’s abortion legislation when the Seanad votes on the matter this hour (5pm).
Speaking in the Seanad this afternoon, he said he was disappointed that a request for a free vote on the issue was not conceded for Fine Gael Oireachtas members.
He added that he regretted that members of the Fine Gael party would lose the whip because of their objection.
Speaking prior to the vote this evening, Senator Michael Mullins told the Seanad he has now placed his trust in the legislation.
Earlier his fellow Galway Fine Gael Senator Fidelma Healy-Eames confirmed she’ll lose the party whip at the Seanad vote this evening.
Fidelma Healy-Eames said she’s made the decision with a heavy heart, knowing what it means for her.
