A Galway Senator is seeking information on how disease free status could be reinstated at a bay in North Connemara.

Trevor O’ Clochartaigh says Ballinakill bay, which is close to Letterfrack, is going to lose its status because an oyster has been affected by the ostreid herpes virus.

The Marine Institute has been monitoring the Bay for the last number of years.

The Sinn Fein Senator is expected to raise the issue in the Seanad this evening.
