GALWAY SENATOR FAVOURITE IN RACE TO LEAD PDS

A newspaper poll shows the PD leadership looks set to go to Galway Senator Ciaran Cannon.

The Sunday Tribune says the Galway-based publican and politician is ahead of Senator Fiona O’Malley in the race to lead the ailing party.

The phone poll was carried out last week after nominations closed in the race.

Of the 18 councillors contacted, 11 were committed to supporting Cannon for the leadership, while just six voted for O’Malley.

The new party leader will be announced on April 16th.

Speaking to Galway Bay FM News this morning, Senator Cannon gave a cautious reaction to the poll.
