GALWAY SENATOR CONDEMNS CLOSURE OF CITY ASYLUM CENTRE

A Galway Senator has hit out at the Government for its decision to close an asylum accomodation centre in the City.
Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh says he’s appalled that Lisbrook House, formerly the IBIS Hotel, off the Headford Road, will close.
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has confirmed that Lisbrook House, which houses over 250 men, women and children, is to close by the end of next month
In a statement, Minister Shatter says that the fundamental problem with keeping the centre open to the end of the school year in July 2013 is cost.
Buying beds would amount to over 2 million euro, which the Government says could be put to better use.
Senator O’Clochartaigh says it’s a heartless decision by the Minister and the Government to close Lisbrook House.
