Galway senator calls for ‘rural-proofing’ on budget cuts

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Department of Education have been accused of using the pupil teacher ratio as a ‘blunt instrument’ in staffing schedules for rural schools.

Galway Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh says he is worried about the impact of the upcoming budget on rural communities.

Recent cuts have resulted in a loss of teachers in many schools as well as cuts to school transport in rural areas.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Senator O’Clochartaigh says he is calling on the Minister for Education to ‘rural proof’ the budget.
