Galway senator calls for improvements to career guidance
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway senator has called on the Minister for Education to take action to tackle a crisis in career guidance.
Senator Fidelma Healy Eames says action is badly needed to better prepare students for third level courses.
She says that the culture built up around the Leaving Cert is not healthy, and focuses too much on the exam rather than career guidance.
The Senator has also said the recheck process currently in place is too late for CAO offers and needs to be reviewed.
Senator Healy Eames says a new ESRI study shows that half of Ireland’s leaving cert students regret their life choices by the age of 21.
