Galway Senator Ronan Mullen claims the head of the HSE inquiry into the death of Savita Halappanavar is not suitable because he supports abortion.

Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran,Head of obstetrics and gynaecology at St Geroges Hospital, University of London, was appointed to lead the inquiry on Monday.

In a 2009 paper, he encouraged countries with restrictive abortion laws to look at the evidence in favour of liberal abortion laws.

31 year old Savita, a dentist living in Galway, died at UHG on the 28th of October of septicaemia several days after she presented with back pain.

Her husband Praveen, an engineer at Boston Scientific, claims they had asked repeatedly for a termination but was refused as there was a foetal heartbeat present.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny told the Dáil yesterday that three Galway based doctors would no longer sit on the HSE inquiry.
