GALWAY SENATOR CALLS FOR CLARITY ON SALARY OF REHAB CHARITY BOSS
Date Published: 06-Nov-2012
Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has called for Rehab charity boss Angela Kerins to be brought before an Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee to discuss her salary.
In a recent Twitter post, Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has said that the Rehab chief executive and the organisation’s board should be called before the powerful committee because Ms Kerins "earns more than the Taoiseach".
The demand comes after the Irish Independent revealed this week that Ms Kerins was paid almost €220,000 in fees for sitting on four state boards since she became Rehab boss.
The Rehab Group says the fees received by Angela Kerins were over a six year period and donated to charitable causes.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Senator Healy Eames says the position needs to be clarified given cuts to Rehab in Galway of late.
Rehab Enterprises blamed the economic downturn and poor market conditions for the redundancies of 18 staff at its centre at Parkmore in the city, earlier this year.
However, it said those who wish to move on to further employment would be given help to in securing other jobs either with the Rehab group or externally.
Senator Healy Eames says the chief executive’s salary needs to be explained in light of such difficult decisions by the group elsewhere.
