Galway Bay FM Newsroom – 4 new classes will open later this month for children with special needs in Galway.

The National Council for Special Education says 118 new classes nationwide will cater for over 700 children with special needs in 113 mainstream primary and post primary schools.

The new classes will bring the total number of special accommodation rooms in mainstream schools to over 740 nationwide.

The class rooms have lower pupil-teacher ratios than mainstream classes, ranging from one teacher for six pupils to one teacher for eleven pupils.

The schools in Galway to benefit from the new classes are Ros a Mhil National School, Kilcoona National School, Buaile Beag National School in Rahoon and Kinvara National School.

The group is also launching a new booklet to help parents choose a school for their child.
