GALWAY REHAB AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Galway Rehab People of the Year Award winners were announced at a reception at the Clayton Hotel in the city last evening.

The winners were nominated by the public for their work in bettering the lives of people in Galway and abroad.

NUIG Professor, Pat Dolan is being honoured for his contribution to children’s rights and family support in Ireland, especially the city.

Ahascragh native, Peadar Burns will receive his award for his involvement with Ability West since it was set up in 1963.

PJ Coyle, head coach of Galway City Harriers Athletic Club, is being honoured for promotion of athletics in Galway.

The Tigers Club in Mountbellew will receive a Rehab award for helping people with special needs have a better social life.

Salthill’s Ray Carroll will be honoured for breaking a world record by rowing across the Atlantic unsupported in just under 44 days for charity.

Founder of the Galway Advertiser, Ronnie O’ Gorman is being honoured for his contribution to the commercial, cultural and sporting well being of Galway.

Broadcaster and journalist, Jim Carney is also among the Rehab People of the Year.

He’s being honoured for his contribution to Galway sporting life.

John Marley is being honoured for his work above the call of duty in the area of Psychiatric care in South Connemara.

Broadcaster and CEO of Galway Bay Fm, Keith Finnegan will receive a Rehab Award for his promotion of Galway and his charitable and cultural contributions.

Marina Fidler of MADRA is being recognised for her ceaseless work in the care of unwanted and neglected dogs.

Chairman of the Friends of Chernobyl Corofin Branch, Martin Fleming will receive a Rehab Award for helping less fortunate communities.

Finally Galway Hospice staff, volunteers and board members are also being recognised for their excellent work.

The Awards will be presented at a gala banquet at the Clayton Hotel on Saturday April 2nd.
