There’s no serious demand for an earlier commuter train into Galway city on the Oranmore side, despite the traffic gridlock coming into the city.

That’s according to Iarnrod Eireann District Manager, Gerry Glynn, who presented rail plans for Galway at the outer city bypass oral hearing today.

Mr Glynn was answering questions from observors as to why only one commuter train travels to Galway city before 9 am.

He told Hands Across the Corrib campaigner Percy Bodger they didn’t have a “serious volume of requests for an earlier train than the 8.20am according to customer research carried out “3 or 4 years ago”.

New rail carriages are being delivered to boost services to 10 daily trains to the capital this year.
