Galway public lands could be assessed for fodder potential
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Government is to consider setting up a committee to audit all publicly-owned grasslands in Galway and other areas, to assess potential fodder supply.
Galway Senator Lorraine Higgins raised the issue in the Seanad saying that although the fodder crisis has alleviated it’s certainly not over.
Many farmers in Galway and across the country are still facing an animal food shortage following poor weather conditions last year.
An inter-agency fodder committee was established during the summer to monitor the situation.
A recent survey carried out by the agency shows an overall average fodder surplus of about 8 percent across the country.
