Galway provides best value of all Irish cities
Date Published: 27-Jun-2008
GALWAY provides more value for money than other Irish cities despite the fact that petrol and diesel costs are dearer here, a new survey has found.
The survey for the Newstalk Lunchtime with Eamon Keane programme, was conducted this week in four cities nationally and looked at a range of services to compare costs. The survey looked at the total average costs of a litre of petrol, a takeaway, a round of drinks, a cinema ticket and a full head of highlights. The totals showed that Galway was substantially the cheapest city with Cork second.
Galway totalled €104.43, with the other cities as follows: Cork – €126.38, Limerick – €131.27, Dublin – €165.32.
Galway scored particularly well in the cost of hairdressers – with the average cost of a full head of highlights at around €77 compared to €137 in Dublin. But Cork movie fans were happy to hear that their city has the best value-for-money daytime cinema ticket at €5.50 – compared to €7.10 in Galway – while the evening price is €8, more than €1 cheaper than the other three cities surveyed.
