GALWAY PRIVATE CONSULTANTS RENT OUT MACHINES

Consultant radiologists in Galway and Cork have set up private companies to hire out private scanning machines to public hospitals.

According to today’s Irish Independent, the consultants are already on staff salaries of around 150 thousand euro a year.

It’s understood they’ve set up companies to provide in-house MRI and CAT scans to public hospitals where they work.

The machines were bought by the consultants between the 1990s and 2007 and were installed in University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park Hospital and Cork hospitals.

The HSE claims that funding is not available to buy such machines and renting them from the consultants is cost effective.
