Galway Ploughing Championships return to Lisheenavalla on Sunday
IT might have been a very wet early Spring in Galway but nevertheless the County Ploughing Championships are destined to go ahead next Sunday.
Galway’s top ploughmen – and women – will do battle on Sunday next (12 noon to 4pm) on Gerry Naughton’s farm at Lisheenavalla, Claregalway.
This will be a familiar stomping ground for many of the competitors who turned the sod on the same field a few years back.
Galway County Ploughing Secretary, Maura Canning, told the Farming Tribune that it was ‘all systems go’ for Sunday’s event.
“We know that it has been a very wet end to the Winter and indeed to the start to the Spring as well over recent weeks but hopefully the weather looks fairly ok for the weekend.
“It promises to be a very competitive event with many top-class competitors taking part so we’re all looking forward to it: everyone is welcome to attend,” said Maura Canning.
Places in the National Ploughing Championship finals to be held in Carlow next September will be up for grabs in a number of different categories.
