GALWAY NATIVE SECURES EUROPEAN PORTFOLIO

Ireland has secured the Research and Innovation portfolio in the new European Commission.

Irish nominee and Galway native Máire Geoghegan Quinn is to be allocated this portfolio by Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

The Carna native and former Justice Minister was considered the most appropriate candidate by the Taoiseach.
