Musician Neev Kennedy was the only Galway act among the 10 finalists chosen from hundreds of entries to play Electric Picnic in 2fm’s Play The Picnic with Oxfam competition.

Earlier this summer RTÉ 2fm, in conjunction with Oxfam and Electric Picnic, put a call out to artists and bands across the country to compete for a coveted live set at the country’s biggest music festival.

From Loughrea, Neev (25) won a spot and will be playing Oxfam Ireland’s Oxjam Stage at this year’s Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally Estate, Co. Laois, from September 4-6.

Neev Kennedy from Loughrea who will perform at the event.

She’ll be performing alongside her bandmate, David Payne (30) from Donegal. They will also get to stay on after their performance and soak up the atmosphere with weekend camping tickets for all band members.

Now Neev Kennedy is calling on the people of Galway to vote for her in the final round of the competition. By doing so, voters are entered into a prize draw to win one of two pairs of weekend camping tickets to the now sold-out Electric Picnic.

To vote, tune into 2fm from now to Wednesday, August 12 where Neev Kennedy’s winning track will be played to the nation and a public text vote competition will determine one overall winning act. Voting details can be found at www.rte.ie/playthepicnic.

The overall winner will go on to play The Cosby Stage at the Picnic, gaining even more exposure at the festival.

The act voted number one will also win two masterclasses with some of the best experts in the music industry – Festival Republic Managing Director, Melvin Benn and 2fm Director of Music and Sound, Mark McCabe.

A thrilled Neev said: “A huge thank you to everyone that voted for us. We are over the moon to have made it this far in the competition but to go on to play the Cosby Stage would be a dream within a dream.

“I’m asking all my fans out there to please tune into 2fm and send a text stating PICNIC7 to 50300 and vote for us.”

By supporting home-grown talent, voters will also be raising vital funds for Oxfam’s work such as its emergency response in Nepal with all proceeds from the text vote being donated to Oxfam Ireland and helping to save lives overseas.
