TWO Galway firemen were treated as a precautionary measure at UHG on Wednesday night after a fire broke out in a city garage – Gardaí are not treating the incident as suspicious.

The alarm was raised shortly after 8.15pm when smoke was noticed coming from the workshop area of Western Motors at Briarhill Business Park, Ballybrit.

Three fire brigade units dealt with the blaze that was witnessed by punters returning to the city after the last race at Ballybrit.

It is understood that two of the firemen were removed to UHG after suffering minor injuries – both were released early yesterday morning.

Two units of Galway Fire Brigade – along with one from Athenry station and another from Tuam – arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and brought the fire under control. They remained at the scene until midnight.
