Galway minors’ winning run halted by Tipp

THE Galway minor camogie team suffered their first defeat in the All-Ireland championship when falling to Tipperary on Sunday in the Ragg.

Galway will be disappointed with a dip in their performance after having a fantastic start to the championship. Tipperary hunted in packs throughout the game and put a lot of pressure on Galway all over the pitch.

Danielle Ryan opened the scoring for Tipperary with a well taken score from play before Clodagh O’Meara was fouled, allowing Aoibheann Barry to bring the teams level.

Two frees from Celine Guinan gave Tipperary the initiative again and the home team followed up when Hazel Brennan set up Ryan for another point from play in the 12th minute. Subsequently, Galway got a much-needed score In the 13th minute. A long ball in by Barry found Caoimhe Kelly and she laid off to Helena Tarpey who made no mistake in finding the Tipp net at the second attempt.

Sophie Flynn teamed up with Alannah Fahy on the midway point of the half and Fahy slotted the ball over the bar to bring the sides level for the second time. Guinan (free), Kate Ferncombe and Kate Ralph got three unanswered points for Tipperary to put them back in the driving seat.
