GALWAY MICHAEL COLLINS SOCIETY SUCCESS

LAST night (Friday) over a hundred people attended the inagural Michael Collins Society Night of History and Heritage in the Menlo Park Hotel.

Nora Owen, Grandniece of Michael Collins and former Minister for Justice was the main speaker.

She gave an insight into the personal life of Michael Collins and the influences that made him a prominent leader.

Michael A Doran, Lecturer and Author spoke on Michael Collins the Minister for Finance while Jim Higgins MEP addressed the gathering on Michael Collins and Leadership and his Connacht connections.

 

Bill Martin National Organiser of the Collins 22 Society officially launched a Galway Branch and wished the branch every success in the years ahead.

The setting up of the society’s first West of Ireland branch in Galway came to fruition due to the efforts of Cllr Frank Fahy who also organised two busloads from this area to the annual commemoration ceremony at Beal na Blath earlier this year.
