Galway men may seek prison for Agriculture Minister

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Two Department of Agriculture employees, who claim they were ‘double-crossed’ may make a bid to have Agriculture Minister, Simon Coveney jailed.

Technical agricultural officers, Vincent Gormley from Brownsgrove, Tuam and James Scott from Glinsk, Ballymoe took the legal action earlier this year.

Papers have already been prepared for an application to jail the Minister.

The two men claim they should have been redeployed as assistant inspectors.

The court was told that Minister Coveney gave an undertaking in July that he would not appoint people to the inspectors’ posts, which were advertised in April, or until the court case taken by the two men was determined.

According to today’s Irish Independent, lawyers for the two employees say that it seems the positions have been filled.

Defence counsel for the Minister objected to a suggestion of a breach of undertaking.

Justice John Hedigan adjourned the case until after a Labour Relations Commission hearing next month.
