Galway medical company’s delight at international healthcare award
Galway-based Aerogen has been honoured with the 2013 Zenith Award from the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) in recognition of its breakthrough nebuliser technology.
The award is voted for by the 52,000 respiratory therapists, physicians and nursing staff comprising the professional membership of the AARC, and was announced at its 59th International Respiratory Congress held this month in Anaheim, California.
This is the first year that the Zenith Award has been given to an indigenous Irish company.
From its headquarters in the Irish medical device hub of Galway, Aerogen has revolutionised drug delivery to patients on life support ventilation through the creation of the Aeroneb® range of vibrating mesh nebulisers. These high-performance aerosol generators employ patented technology to turn liquid medication into a fine particle mist, gently and efficiently delivering drugs to the lungs of critically ill patients. Innovative products such as the Aeroneb® Solo offer improved patient care and less wastage of drugs while significantly reducing patients’ length of stay and related costs of hospital care.
“As a medical device company on the West Coast of Ireland, it is fantastic for us to be recognised at such a high level. The scale of our achievement is clear when we consider this year’s other five winners, who are all global powerhouses in critical care medicine.
“The association’s 52,000 dedicated professionals have singled out Aerogen as a trusted ally that has made a difference to the lives of their patients, for which we are extremely proud,” said Aerogen CEO John Power.
