Galway Marks and Spencer closed as workers stike
Galway bay fm newsroom – Marks and Spencer at the Corrib shopping centre in the city centre is closed today as workers have gone on strike.
The shutters are closed on the store and around 10 of the staff are wearing placards saying ‘Mandate, Marks and Spencer official strike’
Around 10 more of the staff are maintaining a presence outside at the side of the shopping centre.
The group join around 2,000 workers at 17 M&S stores in the strike action – in a row over the company’s defined pension scheme.
Management say they want to re-open “meaningful negotiations”
The company is advising people they can still shop online, and the store at the Corrib shopping centre will be re-open tomorrow.
David Moran from Mandate Trade Union says they’re willing to sit down and tal
