Galway march on after thriller

WINTER’S draught might have left its mark on Pearse Stadium last Sunday but there was more than a waft of championship intensity from this pulsating Division One, National Football League clash.
It was an uplifting encounter which deserved a bigger crowd, as Galway sought to consolidate their top of the table position while a Tyrone side, without a win in their first two league starts, made a full blooded effort to end their dry run.
The reality though is that the difference between Galway, at the top of the table, and Tyrone at the bottom, is scarcely a kick of the ball, although both sides will take their own consolations from this encounter.
Winning though, as the old saying goes, is something of a habit and Galway, via the FBD and the National League, now have a seven match unbeaten run pieced together in 2008. They will probably have taken more solace from this victory than any of the previous six, as so far this decade,Tyrone have been one of the automatic ‘top fours’ in terms of All-Ireland contenders — a win over them is never a bad sign.
