Galway loses two sporting legends
Date Published: 12-Mar-2009
GALWAY lost two sporting legends this week with the death of the second of the Terrible Twins, Frank Stockwell, and Johnny Dooley, the Galwegians star who made history, playing international rugby for Ireland.
The rugby great was laid to rest yesterday, hours before GAA personalities from the past and present turned out in force last night to pay their respects at the removal of Frank Stockwell, who passed away on Monday afternoon.
Hundreds of mourners attended the removal of the 1956 All-Ireland winning corner forward affectionately known as ‘Stocky’ from St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam.
Poignantly, similar crowds attended the removal from the same oratory over three and half years ago when his great friend Sean Purcell passed away.
