A candlelit vigil to mark the Amnesty International Campaign of opposing violence against women takes place is being arranged for Galway city for this Friday [dec 5]

The street vigil will be held in solidarity with the people of the democratic republic of Congo.

Last year, Congolese women made up over one quarter of clients who attended the Galway rape crisis centre’s asylum clinic.

The vigil takes place outside Lynches Castle on Shop Street at 5pm this Friday, and will be followed by a discussion with exiled Iraqi Academic Dr Sawsan Al Assaf.

The talk entitled ‘IRAQI women, between sectarian war and American Occupation’ takes place at the Amnesty International Freedom Cafe in the city at 7.30.
