Galway Leader projects saved with extra government funding
Approved Galway leader projects have received a lifeline this evening following an announcement that they are to benefit from a national funding pot of 42 million euro.
The allocation for approved projects, which had been on hold, is part of an overall total of 90 million euro secured to safeguard the Leader elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
It follows a rebalancing exercise by the Department of the Environment after the European Commission approved a change in the maximum co-funding rate for the Leader programme.
Galway local development companies including Fourm Connemara, Comhar na nOileain Teo and Galway Rural Development will now be able to continue such projects.
They have been given two weeks to notify the department on the projects which are deemed ready to proceed.
Galway West Fine Gael TD Sean Kyne says the programme is vital in stimulating economic activity and job creation and helps to support rural communities throughout our region.
