There is intense speculation about the identity of County Galway’s newest multimillionaire after the ticket for the second biggest pot ever in the Lotto was purchased in Tuam.
The €6 quick pick was purchased in the Statoil filling station at Galway Road, Tuam and it is believed that it may be a person who was travelling to work in Galway city.
Staff at the Statoil station were in an excited state this morning when it was revealed that the ticket for €10 million plus jackpot was purchased in their store yesterday.
However, the National Lottery Headquarters in Dublin would not give the exact time when the ticket was purchased — this was in order to preserve the identity of the winner.
This morning the shop, which has a very significant passing trade, was packed to capacity with people inquiring who the new millionaire might be.
One senior staff member said that it was likely that the winner would have come from Tuam or North Galway, as that was where most of their passing traffic came from.
“We are only speculating but the vast majority of business comes from people who are either travelling from Tuam or through Tuam towards Galway.
“Everyone here is delighted with the news and it is very hard to get anything done with all of the excitement going on.
We are just dying to know who the winner is”, she said.
