Galway lads sit on New York skyline once again

LITTLE did two men from South Galway realise that more than 75 years after they were famously pictured sitting on a steel girder 70 floors above New York that they would feature on the cover of the new Sawdoctors album!
It is one of the most recognised construction photographs ever taken and will form the cover of the new “best of” album with pictures of the band members superimposed on the photographs.
According to band manager Ollie Jennings, it was the idea of Leo Moran to use the New York skyline image which also features Davy Carton reading a copy of the Tuam herald.
It was the huge Galway significance to the photograph which prompted the Sawdoctors to use it on the cover of the new album entitled To Win just Once . . . The Best of the Sawdoctors.
The picture features two workers from Shanaglish, near Gort, who are sitting at either end of the photograph. On the extreme left of the photo lighting the cigarette is Matty O’Shaughnessy while Patrick ‘Sonny’ Glynn is holding the whiskey bottle on the extreme right.
The same picture is proudly displayed in Whelan’s pub in Shanaglish and it has become a huge visitor attraction since it was discovered that two of the people on the steel girder were from Galway.
