A District Court judge has said the prevalence of laptop thefts in the city has become a growing problem because there is a ready market for such items.

Judge Mary Fahy made the comment while sentencing a Polish man caught with two stolen laptops in his home, to seven months in prison at Galway District Court on Monday.

30 year old Jan Laszewski, with a former rental address at 21 The Links, Ballymoneen Road, Knocknacarra, pleaded guilty to handling the stolen laptops on February 25 last.

He also pleaded guilty to having a small quantity of cannabis herb for his own use on the same occasion.
