Galway judge questions Romanian man’s alleged disabilities
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway judge has her suspicions about a Romanian man’s purported disabilities after she saw him jump up suddenly one day in court.
53 year old Ioan Radu of 119 Meadowbrook, Gort, who appears bent over and uses a crutch to get around, appeared in custody before Galway District Court this week.
He is charged with obstructing passersby while begging.
The court heard Radu had two summonses pending for obstructing passersby while begging at Quay Street, Galway.
Defence solicitor Olivia Traynor told the court this week that Radu had medical difficulties.
However, Judge Mary Fahy replied, “I’m curious about his medical conditions. He was in court on Monday and I saw him jump up and run up here, swivel his head and read the time. He didn’t seem to have any disability then.”
She remanded Radu in custody to appear before the court next Wednesday and requested a medical report regarding his disabilities.
