Singularly fortunate

Ballinasloe has been singularly fortunate in that it is the first town in Ireland outside Dublin in which the International Shippers have opened a branch for the purpose of opening up direct trade from Ireland with foreign countries, and introducing the best of the world’s goods to traders in the West.

The head office in Ireland is at 27, Lower Abbey-st., and two branch offices have been opened in France for continental trade, whilst an office is also being opened in New York.

The advertisement in this issue gives some idea of the commodities in which the International Shippers are prepared to deal. Frankly, may we say that we do not know at the moment the exact lines on which the company proposes to carry on its work; but it is obvious that there is considerable need for strong and reliable trade links between Ireland and the outside world.

Any company that secures this boon is deserving of cordial support. The firm was fortunate in procuring the services as manager of Mr. R. J. Kenny, whose career as an athlete brought him in touch with thousands of people not only throughout the West but in Ireland generally, while his success as an organiser needs no mention here beyond the fact that Galway’s sensational success in the All-Ireland Cross Country Championship in Dublin was due to his efforts.

Another young Ballinasloe man, Mr. M. Murray, will also be connected with the firm.

We wish Mr Kenny every success, and trust that the same luck which has attended him in the past may be trebled in his new sphere.
