While waiting list times have dropped significantly in hospitals across the country over the past year, Galway continues to buck the trend.

Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly set a target when he got into office that no patient should be on a waiting list for longer than 12 months.

This target was met in all hospitals in the country by the end of December except for Galway.

According to the Irish Times, about 300 patients in Galway, waiting for more than a year, will now be offered treatment in private centres.
