GALWAY HOMES TARGETTED IN EMPLOYMENT LAW PROBE
Date Published: 08-Feb-2011
Homes across Galway are being targetted as part of a clampdown on breaches of employment laws.
The National Employment Rights Authority is carrying out spot checks of private homes that employ cleaners and other domestic workers.
If successful here, the pilot NERA campaign will then be rolled out across the rest of the country.
Breaches include working very long hours, not receiving contracts or payslips and being threatened or verbally abused.
Aoife Smith of the Migrants Rights Centre of Ireland says many employers turn a blind eye to the rights of domestic workers.
